BOARD OF REVIEW POLICIES
-
All Boards of Review need to be scheduled one week in advance.
- Scouts will not be allowed to have both on the same evenings, unless "special" arrangements have been made in advance.
- A Sign up sheet will be provided on a weekly basis to ensure that scouts have time to arrange conferences and reviews.
- When seeking conferences and boards for Star, Life or Eagle, it is the scout's responsibility to complete the evaluation form and to be prepared in advance.

Troop 317 Committee Chairman

       MERIT BADGE INFO
Click for the latest merit badge counselor lists.

For general knowledge, merit badges can be earned individually by scouts at any time. That is, merit badges do not have to be earned during a troop activity, such as a campout or summer camp, nor during a merit badge clinic. They can be earned by a scout independent of scout activities and other scouts.
The only requirement to earn a merit badge is to get a recognized merit badge counselor to appropriately sign and date the merit badge blue card. This card must be obtained from troop leadership prior to merit badge work.

On to Summer Camp... July 11 - 18!

Pathways to Eagle Event. . . Once again this year, Troop 317 will be participating in the Bolingbrook "Pathways to Eagle" event, held at the Bolingbrook Town Center on July 31 - August 2. We had a couple of Scouts attend for the day on Saturday last year, but this year plan to attend for the entire weekend (camping Friday and Saturday night).
This event is a fantastic way for Scouts to earn additional merit badges. There are four sessions held on Saturday where boys who have completed their prerequisites can work with a counselor to earn a variety of merit badges. The merit badge list is available at:
http://www.p2e.org/pweagle/p2e_mb.php. (Some badges require two sessions to complete). Just like Merit Badge University, you have to have certain prerequisites complete in order to earn the badge. Those prerequisites are listed under each badge on the website above.
On Friday night, there will be a portable climbing wall as well as ice skating at the Rocket Ice Arena.
Saturday, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided (no cooking!). After the merit badge sessions, we will be swimming at Bolingbrook's Pelican Harbor water park.
Breakfast is provided Sunday morning before we break camp.
The cost for the event will be around $30.00 per Scout, which will cover all meals, ice skating, skate rental, swimming and the merit badge sessions.
I'll be sending out more information next week and looking for a count of Scouts and Adults planning to attend by May 18 so we can finalize our plans. I'll contact you later to get your list of merit badges.
Please consider joining us for this fun Scout event and a chance to get ahead on some of your requirements. A number of Eagle-required badges are being offered.

Thanks,
- J. R. Gray, Troop 317 Committee Chair
