TROOP 317 POLICIES
OFFICIAL BOY SCOUT OF AMERICA UNIFORMS

Full Class "A" uniforms are encouraged but not required. A full class "A" uniform consists of:

  • Troop 317 neckerchief
  • BSA shirt with red shoulder tabs, American flag and 3 Fires council patch
  • Troop 317 numerals and other patches as outlined in the BSA manual.
  • Scout long or short pants and long or short socks.

All of the above is required except for the pants and socks. Khaki pants/shorts are OK. Jeans are discouraged. Full uniform is required at Court of Honor, Scoutmaster Conference, Board of Reviews, Troop meetings, community service projects and travel to and from all campouts. Class "B" uniforms consist of a troop 317 blue t-shirt. This is used for daily activities on campouts. They can be purchased from Don Meyer for $7.

Discipline

Boys will be boys. We, as leaders, have boys in this troop so we are understanding and patient. We are however a guest of the Naperville School District and the campgrounds/event sites we visit. We want to stay in good standing. If there is unacceptable behavior at a troop meeting, campout or event… your son will be warned once, twice and probably a third time. If he is not cooperative he will be asked to call home for you to come and pick him up immediately.

Parent Involvement

All parents are asked and expected to get involved. If we do not have your participation in some way, the troop will not stay healthy and your son will not receive the benefits of scouting. The boys who have their parents participating are the boys that stay involved in scouting and move on to Eagle.

There is no other activity that you as a parent can spend a full weekend with your son having fun and sharing memories. If your son is in sports, unless you are the coach, you just sit on the sidelines and watch. In scouts your son will enjoy spending time doing activities with mom or dad. If you are afraid you do not know scouting skills…don't worry…we will teach you. You will also get much satisfaction from helping other boys grow, mature, develop and have fun while doing all these developmental exercises.

Please get involved in your son and our troop.
Happy Scouting!
