We are proud to be the recipient of the Boy Scouts of America QUALITY UNIT AWARD every year since our formation! At our last three summer camps the boys won
the Baden Powell Award for setting up and keeping a model campsite.Philosophy: Boy Scouts are different then cub scouts. It is the scout's responsibility to set goals and take
the initiative to accomplish them. The adult leaders will advise and encourage your son but the scout must take charge. The Scouts are divided into patrols. New boys are organized into patrols with the other
new boys keeping the boys from one Webelo den together in their new patrol. An older experienced scout will be appointed as a Troop Guide for each new patrol to help the new boys move into scouting and their
new Troop. Troop 317 is a boy led Troop. We practice the Patrol method to the greatest extent we can. Every meeting has time for Patrol meetings. Each campout is organized around the Patrols. Each Patrol
decides what their menu will be, will go buy their own food, and will do their own cooking and KP. They also plan what they will do on the campout. This is all done with help and guidance from the Asst.
Scoutmasters. Community Service:
We will do several community service projects each year that will
reinforce the values of citizenship and community Meetings: Meetings will
be held on Monday night through the school year at Kendall Elementary in south Naperville. Meetings start at 7 PM and finish around 8:15 PM. The Monday nights we meet are based on the school calendar. If
school is open and your son attends school on a Monday then that means we have a meeting. The only exception to this is on the Monday nights that we have the Patrol Leader Council meeting. On those Mondays
there is not a total Troop meeting. See the calendar for these dates.Campouts and Events: Campouts are planned monthly except for August and December. In December we do a
day event. August is a month off and a planning month for the next scouting year. A one-week summer camp is held each year in July. This is an excellent opportunity for the boys to progress on the First
Class Trail, earn Merit Badges, learn outdoor skills and get comfortable with camping. Troop 317 will provide all camping equipment except for personal gear. A list of gear needed by each boy is made
available to the parents. Court of Honor: Two courts of honor are held each year in November and May. A dinner is served with the award presentation that will celebrate your
son's accomplishments. All family members are invited to attend and congratulate the boys on their hard work and accomplishment. Dues and Costs: Annual dues are $70/scout, $35
for the second scout in a family. The dues cover Boys Life, registration, Troop dues and equipment upkeep / maintenance. A typical campout is $25 and the week long summer camp is around $275. - TOP - |
